We are fully aware that the international community has retreated from its commitment to international law, and that the logic of power has become dominant over the power of law. We also recognize that the establishment of the International Organization for the Protection of Minorities has taken place in a precise and sensitive context, marked by the emergence of a new colonial trend seeking to overturn the Sykes-Picot framework in order to further fragment an already divided region. This trend attempts to politically exploit minorities in international conflicts.
We do not place the protection of minorities within political agendas. Rather, we seek that existing states guarantee the rights of minorities without undermining their sovereignty and without pushing minorities to serve the expansionist agendas of one state or another.
We oppose any use of violence, whether in governance or in the conduct of international relations. Therefore, as we follow the developments of the armed conflict in the Middle East, we call on the international community to urgently intervene to end the war and to swiftly return to managing disputes through dialogue and diplomatic solutions only. We also stress that the issue of minorities must not be used to dismantle states or create new realities on the ground that serve expansionist interests.
