Alawite youths kidnapped in the Ghab Plain in the Hama countryside

We have been informed that terrorist factions have attacked Alawite villages in the Ghab Plain area in the Hama countryside, Syria.

The armed group burned Alawite homes, insulted residents, beat young men, and kidnapped some of them, claiming they suspected Alawites of involvement in an attack on a terrorist faction that left one of its members dead. This was the pretext the militants used to target Alawites in the al-Ghab Plain region, burning their homes, and kidnapping their young men.

It is worth noting that the Alawites were among the first revolutionaries demanding independence from the French mandate, and they even achieved self-rule in a state called the State of Jabal Alawites between 1922 and 1936. They also formed the backbone of the Great Syrian Revolution, alongside the Druze and other sects. They are spread out in coastal areas such as Latakia, Tartous, and Banias.

The relationship between the new government and the Alawites has witnessed many confrontations, as a number of Takfiri factions that participated in the overthrow of the former regime hold the Alawites responsible for supporting the previous regime. Some of them openly express violent Takfiri positions against the Alawites, describing them in discriminatory terms that reflect intense hatred based on sectarian affiliations.
